Community Introduction

Middle Island Resources Limited has a stated policy commitment to contribute up to 5% of its exploration budget each year to social development initiatives within the communities in which it operates.

Social development programmes are implemented from the outset of exploration in order to establish the Company’s credentials, build sound working relationships with local communities, and accumulate political and social capital in anticipation of project development.

The programmes must fulfil several key objectives as follows:

  •   Be socially, environmentally and economically sustainable in terms of construction, management and maintenance well beyond the life of any activities the Company might undertake.
  •   Be developed in close consultation with and involvement of local communities and authorities, and be consistent with their priorities.
  •   Must be allocated fairly from year to year across the communities in which the Company operates.
  •   Must be designed, implemented and managed by an experienced NGO.
